
RCN wanted to create a series of promotional spots with a corresponding graphics package that would elevate their image as an innovative player in the telecommunications industry. The concept we developed uses the star from the RCN logo to represent the sense of warmth, comfort and connectivity that RCN’s products bring. Throughout the spot, the elements from the graphic package guide us through a brownstone where various people are enjoying the time spent using internet, cable and phone service. In the end, the glow of the stars watching over each house gives them somewhat of a transcendent quality, which reinforces the tagline: “Connect to something more.”
For the main branding spot, we used a green screen studio for the interior portion and shot the exterior footage using a crane in a Brooklyn neighborhood. At the behest of the client, all of the actors casted for this spot were RCN employees. Somehow, we wound up matching an ex-couple to play the husband and wife roles in the phone scene. What can we say? They just looked like they went together.
Then, we were tasked with creating a gfx package so RCN producers can assemble their own bundle and special promotion spots. We treated everything to fit the color palette of their brand and created new 3D versions of their icons (phone, internet and cable) for a more modern look.
